Introduction

In 1997, after a period of prayer and fasting, Jehovah discussed with Chrissie Chapman and her team the opening of a school in Bujumbura. Subsequently, in January 1998, a small school was opened in Kinindo to educate nine orphans under Chrissie's care. The children were taught by expatriate teachers from England whose living rooms were used as classrooms. In June 1998, Chrissie discovered a new building in the area. She approached the owner and asked if she could rent it and use it as a school. He agreed and made the necessary changes to the building to make it suitable for use as a school. The building was then purchased by a CRIB donor. By September 1998, the building was in use, taught by two expatriate teachers, and 13 children began to be recruited to the new facility. By Easter 1999, the school was registered with the government and in September 1999 the "King's School" was officially opened to the public. On the first day of the school year, 35 children were divided into four classes. The staff currently consists of four expatriate teachers and one national teacher appointed to teach French and Kirundi.
