Introduction

Wmatrixis a software tool for corpus analysis and comparison. It provides a web interface for natural language processing tools such asUSASrespond in singing CLAWSEnglish corpus annotation tools, and (starting with Wmatrix6)Multilingual Semantic Tagger PyMUSASas well as standard corpus language methods (e.g., frequency lists and indexing). It extends the keyword approach to key syntactic categories and key semantic domains.

Wmatrix allows users to run these tools through a web browser such as Chrome or Firefox, so they can be run on any computer (Mac, Windows, Linux) with a web browser and an internet connection.Wmatrix was originally developed by Paul Rayson exist REVERE ProjectIt was developed in the Ph.D., extended and applied to corpus linguistics during the Ph.D., and is still being regularly updated. Earlier versions were available for Unix via terminal-based command line access (tmatrix) and for Unix via Xwindows (Xmatrix), but these versions only provided retrieval of text pre-annotated with USAS and CLAWS.
